news music > ((dave courvoisier)) > the safari club international convention is in town. 20,000 members and vendors are meeting to talk about the business of trophy hunting. and while they're here, they will auction the rights to hunt hundreds of animals on several continents. in tonight's street talk commentary, george knapp looks into the safari club's posted agenda. ((george knapp)) >the safari club is in las vegas this week, offering fun for the whole family, that is, if your whole family likes to kill animals. mostly, it seems, the fun is reserved for dads....dads with wads of money to spend. the annual convention is a huge money maker for the safari club because they auction off the chance to kill all kinds of animals all over the world. trophy hunters are not the same as the average joe with a hunting license. based on the costs, i'd guess a lot of them are bankers, ceo's, lawyers, and physicians.

valued at 52,000 dollars...if you want to kill deer in new zealand, that will run you about 90,000... a cape buffalo in tanzania costs about the same as a sable in south africa...right around 58 grand....and if you'd like to gun down bears in alaska...both brown and black, that's worth a cool 80 g's. chump change to a wall street guy who wants a fierce head on his wall. oh, you can also bid on a 100,000 dollar pair of mammoth tusks, but what's the fun in that? the mammoth is already dead. the highlight of the convention is the seminars where studly alpha males learn all about the beauty and majesty of killing all kinds of critters...there s one on how to bag more birds....one on gutless gutting....and one on why shooting elephants is really good for the elephants. let's see a show of tusks. how many elephants agree with that logic. anyone? the title of this one mentions "complete penetration". i wondered if maybe it was

with those long lonely nights on the serengeti, but it's about how to make sure your arrow goes all the way through the body of a lion or leopard. there are daily sessions on how to encourage more women to pull the trigger. made me wonder if the organizers have thought this through because the women who've told me what they think of safari club might aim at something other than wild game..... this is an excellent course...what wine to pair with your dead prey. . say you're a dentist who's just poached and beheaded a beloved and protected lion. you don't want to drink white or rose when you toast your conquest. that calls for a bold red. the most interesting seminar is one that teaches how to answer the critics of trophy hunting. trophy hunting is moral, virtuous, and honorable the instructor says. the instructor is a lawyer, and if he can convince people that this kind of hunting is moral and virtuous, he should be working for bill cosby, not teaching a seminar. i get the idea of hunting for food. and also to prevent disease or

but i dont get the thrill of traveling to the other side of the planet to shoot a lion or a rhino or an elephant just so you can put its head on your wall and prove to your buddies what a studly dude you must be. trophy hunters will argue that they support conservation and local economies. but studies show that in the long run eco- tourists will spend a lot more to see animals that are alive than dead. and i'm not convinced that these hunters are spending this much dough because they really care about the economic well being of africans. one other seminar caught my attention,,,how scent stimulates the reproductive cycle....trophy hunters should pay attention because when the women in their lives realize what they're up to, this seminar might be the last time they get anywhere near the reproductive cycle. i'm george knapp. ((paula francis)) > and many of you went to our facebook page to share your thoughts on the safari club convention. cheri suydam said: trophy

since the super bowl is a haven for such illegal activity, the nfl is warning fans to beware, especially when buying tickets to the game. they say there are a few things to look out for from tx's to merchandise ((dolones dibella: nfl as you can see the front of the ticket includes a photographic background with grays metallica parents on the back of each ticket is a true hologram this year with the skyline san francisco the gold 50 and the commemorative football thermochromatic inkis used on the graphic on the lower part of the ticket back the super bowl 50 logo will fade when heat is applied and will reappear when heat is removed." sarah saldanau.s. immigration & customs director "locally even just this past week and additional 49 seizures of over 12,000 items with a market sales price of almost $470,000" )) they say criminal activity follows the money so there is

product on the market promises you can fix virtually anything in your home in about 5 seconds flat ... and it will cost you less than 15 bucks to make it happen. ((paula francis)) but does the 5 second fix really work? we asked 8 on your side consumer advocate michelle mortensen to put it to the "try it before you buy it" test. ((michelle mortensen)) > this is one popular "as seen on t-v" product. it promises to fix .. fill and seal anything in seconds and that it's so strong ... you could use it to tow a truck. and yes ... we do put that to the test. < ((when making repairs on a job site they use welding tools ... but you wouldn't try that on a pair of glasses at home unless you had the 5 second fix )) the 5 second fix doesn't look like much. in fact ... it looks like the sonic screw driver from doctor who. but it promises to do a lot ...
6:21 pm
fill and seal anything. it's so strong ... it can tow a truck! but how am i gonna test that? i'm gonna need a professional. someone like rick dale from t-v's american restorations ((:33 remember back in the day when things were made by hand work... my name is rick dale .. and i bring these things back to life. )) lucky for me .. he's based right here in vegas .. and he was up for the challenge. ((michelle: alright rick, thank you so much for helping us out here today. i can tell you are not only a restoration pro but a tv pro because you came prepared. rick: yeah, everything is broken and ready. )) ((michelle: so are you a directions kind of guy? rick: nope)) so we just got right to it... on this piece of dyecast. rick uses it alot and he says it can't be fixed. can the 5 second fix work it's magic. we use the magic glue ... and shine the light for 5 seconds ... and ... ((michelle: whatcha think? ohhh ... i was getting excited there for a minute))

((michelle: i mean we didn't do an awesome job ..rick it's still lose ... maybe we need to take it to a tanning bed. )) but in the end no amount of fake and bake would help. ((rick: it's stuck michelle: well it was till you pulled it off )) normal we'd pack it up ... go home and call this sucker a dud. but not today ... ((rick: i can't beleive they actually tested a cable...michelle: i think we should try it because it would be fun. )) we were determined to fix this broken cable and tow a truck ((michelle: are you ready for this? )) and we almost did. ((rick: and then ...michelle: ohhhhhhhhh )) with that ... we can call it. the 5 second fix is a dud. ((rick: i wished we could have done a burn out .. michelle: i know ..
